I. THE OLD WITNESS

The fIRST Book of Mo’

In the Beginning, the common and downtrodden peoples of the Delta would know and live "the blues". 2 Battling the third plague of human injustice, and caught in the crossfire of a war between Heaven and Hell, the displaced would seek renewal and find salvation.

3 The earth was atonal and void of all musical integrity, and the sky would weep for the loss of life and the absence of song. 4 The exiled and strong-willed would come forth from the drudgery of logging and levee camps, prisons, and cotton fields, to call and forge music of desperation and longing; and their moans of high merit would echo across the great land.

5 Voices would respond and unite, and sing of hope. 6 Amidst the anguish and suffering, the blues would be born to outlast all that would come before and all that would come after... for it was been written.

7 With percussion and incantation, captive hearts would forge sound and melody, and transform an embittered landscape… subjecting all demons, both internal and external, to the frailty of their poisoned logic and symmetry. 8 In rhythm and rhyme, and in purity of heart, they lifted up their hands to the sky for all to see, and shouted loud for all to hear. 9 For in them was the Spirit; and their faith and fortitude would bring forth new forms of blues liberation.

10 And in the flesh, by numbers and fire, they would live to transcend and multiply. 11 By bluesnotes and discord, a New Church would rise up from the ashes of despair and inequity; it was a blues church. 12 Its congregation would be strong and mighty, and the voices of the liberated would harmonize and shout across the earth with righteousness and fury.

13 And each would look down upon their brother's and sister’s flock with mercy and compassion, as if their own… for they were united immortal by song and melody. 14 And their words would move mountains, and ensure dominion over all that had bound them and the powers that be. 15 And even by night, the deceitful were exposed by their deeds and wrongdoings; while the righteous sought shelter from the flood of expansion… and moved to dry ground. 16 And those sanctified by the blues would reign supreme over all. 17 And their works would withstand the high tests of time.
